Mountaineering in Sikkim is a true adventurous
activity and excitement for the visitors to Sikkim.
Sikkim Mountaineering Tour is a perfect destination
for those who are really exploratory and
adventurous. March to May and from September to
November is best time for this activity.


Rock climbing is itself most adventurous activity in
the world. Nakhul Giri of Sikkim Mountaineering
Association and Satish Bardewa (TAAS) will
welcome you all to the rock climbing and an
adventure world. March to June and September to
December is preferable for Rock climbing.



Yak Safari: Sikkim also offers yak safari as an
adventurous activity. A trip on the back of Yak, moves
through the craggy trails, in the midst of angelic
beauty of Sikkim. Best time for Yak safari is from
February to May and October to March.



Archery: It is the favorite
sport of Sikkimese'. People of
Sikkim have their sentiments
attached with this traditional
game. This activity is held from
March to June and September
to December.

Note:
Gangtok is the place where you can indulge in
adventure activities like trekking, white-water rafting,
hang gliding, yak safari, and mountain biking.
There are interesting treks to the Pemayangtse,
Khechopalri, Yuksam, Tsokha, Dzongri, Thangshing,
Zemathang, Chaurigang, Tashiding, Varsey, Yangang,
Rabongla, Sang and Sikip.

Suggested treks:



Yambong Trek
Yambong trek begins from the village of Nambu
and culminating at Yuksom. This trek passes
through Singallia Range bordering with Nepal from
where you will have a chance to observe mountains
of the Sikkim, East Nepal. Yambong Singalila trail
is called as a treasure mountain, and we could
explore this beautiful hidden paradise. It provides
the panoramic view of Mt. Khangchendzonga, Mt.
Pandim, Singalia Trek, and its affixing ranges.
The area of the park of spectacular wilderness with
one of the highest mountain peaks towering above
virtually undisturbed forest cover. There are many
glaciers in the park area.



Kanchendzonga Trek
In this trek, you will hear nothing but the whistle of
the wind, soothing sound of brooks flowing down
the hills, song of birds in different tunes, shrilling
crickets & sometimes, the whistling “Lepchas or
Tibetan yak herder”. The view of Kanchandzonga
ranges is enjoyed from various viewpoints, but the
most beautiful view to these mountains is from
Dzongri & Gochila. Kanchandzonga trek is one of
the perfect trekking landscapes in India. Trek ends
at Phuentsoling in Bhutan or at Bhadrapur airport in
Nepal. Glaciers and snow capped peaks of the
Khangchendzonga range overlooking the pristine
Himalayan environment.

Best time: April-June & October-December period.



Singalila Trek:
The Singalila trek of Sikkim starts from
Kangchenjunga to the northern plains of Bengal. It
is nestled between 12,000 feet to14, 000 feet.
Moreover, the landscape of the Singalila trek adds
delight to trekking in at Singalila. It is famous for
the subtropical forests, rhododendron forests, and
alpine meadows where the hairy yak herds graze to
the high valleys surrounded by glaciers and snow. It
is also said that the Singalila trek of Sikkim houses a
“blissful environment”. The lakes of the Singalila
add a perfect charm to an atmosphere of this trek.

Best time to visit: Mid Feb to June & Sep to
December.



Dzongri trek:
The Dzongri trek follows the trail embracing the
sharp edged Singalila Ridge. The unique landscape
gets permanently imprinted on a trekkers mind. The
trek starts from Yuksom, the former capital of
Sikkim, located in the velvet green at 5,800 feet, and
concluding at the high point of Dzongri Top at
15,000 feet, right in the grandeur of the
Kanchenjunga National Park.
The trek passes through moss laden, thickly forested
ridges teeming with rich flora to the heights above
tree line. It offers you view of chestnut, oak, pine,
maple and magnolia trees to name a few. A haunting
panorama of snow peaks forming an arc of 270
degrees through the azure sky.

Best time: April-June and October-December.




Sandakphu Trek:
The Sandakphu Trek is popularly known as
“Sandakphu –Singalila” trek It will enable you to
discover the Sublime Himalayan interiors unmarred
by mankind. Darjeeling has one of the most
spectacular treks to offer along with the beauty of
the hills. The charms of the Himalaya along with its
mysteries gradually unfold as trekkers traverse
through the dense forests and verdant landscape,
through miles of green-carpeted meadows and
sleepy hamlets lost in time.

Best time to visit: Any time of the year. The
monsoon months of July-August is not suggested.



Goecha La trekking:
This trek offers breath-taking views of the
Himalayan along the way. From Darjeeling hills
where tea plantations stretch as far as the eye can
see, to Sikkim, an ancient Himalayan kingdom of
Tibetan culture. This trek leads on easy narrow
paths along the Indo-Nepal border, sometimes at the
edge of the jungle, sometimes through magnificent
rhododendron forests. The visit of the main Sikkim
monasteries (Pemayangtse, Tashiding, Rumtek)
provide a touch of culture and make of this journey
a rare endeavor.

Best time to visit: March- May or Sept-November.

Sikkim’s specialities:



Carpet Weaving is the oldest form of carpet weaving
in the world. This art is done by an exclusive manner
of weaving, and by the hard-working artisans of
Sikkim. It appears in the designs of striking carpets.



Wood Carving is in Sikkim is symbolic of true art of
India. You can trace monasteries and buildings,
festooned with symbols and icons carved in wood.
The mask dance of Sikkim is also portrayed in wood
carvings. These masks are made out of wood and
papier-mâché.



Thangka Paintings are in itself unique as these
paintings were the only medium to preach the highest
ideals of Buddhism. 'Thangkas' are usually made on
cotton canvas with a frame of silk. The images of
different Gods, Goddesses and philosophies related to
Buddhism are seen. Commercialization of this art
helps monasteries and practitioners to earn a living.



Handicrafts: People of Sikkim weave various
designs and patterns for woolen blankets, shawls,
bags and jackets. The local handicrafts are available
on sale. The 'thankas' (traditional tapestry), leather
works, dolls, multicolored appliqué work, batiks, a
fine collection of dolls and a range of fashionable
garments are the additional specialties of Sikkim.
The special product of Sikkim is Choktse Tables,
foldable tables. These tables are made in different
designs and dimensions and are renowned here as
well as outside India.
